Striking health workers hit by privatisation to visit Stafford Hospital protest camp

Richard Duffy of NHA’s Stafford group has just sent  us this update on the protest camp in Stafford.  Campaigners are demonstrating against plans to downgrade services. Following the Francis Report, it was announced that Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust is to be scrapped in November with services including paediatrics and critical care being moved to other hospitals.
Richard writes:
“The protest at Stafford Hospital as of today is at day 19 and still going strong. Tomorrow we will be visited by a 30+ striking Doncaster health workers; they previously worked for the NHS, but were put out to tender, a tender which was won by Care UK – they have since seen their wages cut by up to 35%.
For next weekend we have invited other groups and individuals to join us to discuss amongst other things, this government’s hospital closure plans.
We are still actively fighting our neighbouring Trust’s plans to remove our acute, maternity & paediatric services prematurely.
We will hopefully see our first appearance in the national press this week. We’ll keep you posted.  You can follow us on Twitter @staffshospital or Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/supportstaffordhospital/
