Ruth Cadbury reports on the Imperial Trust decision on closures of Hospitals and A&Es in West London 31/07/2014

The decision to close and sell off parts of two hospitals in West London was made this morning at the Board meeting of the Imperial College Healthcare Trust .
I attended the protest against the decision because of the devastating effect it will have on NHS services in the area.
The Trust confirmed the closure of the A&E units in Hammersmith and Central Middlesex Hospitals on 10th September meaning 22,000 patients per year that use them will have to travel to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
The proposals also see the closure of A&E at Charing Cross and more than half of the site in Hammersmith will be sold off, while the number of inpatient beds will be reduced from 360 to just 24.
Charing Cross will be reduced to a primary care centre with some day surgery and treatment services.
This will have a devastating impact on Chiswick residents who depend on the A&E and many other services at Charing Cross. West Middlesex Hopital will also be under enormous pressure and I cannot see where the funding will come from to enable it to expand to cope.
